About Raymond Schmitt
Raymond Schmitt is an avid fishing and hunting enthusiast who has been around water his entire life. He has had his charter boat license for nearly three decades and is one of the area’s leading experts in Venice, LA hunting and fishing. In 2009, Raymond and his brother and nephew, Mike and Josh, opened Saltgrass Outdoors to share their breadth of knowledge with travelers, fishers, and hunters across the country. Raymond loves what he does and started Saltgrass because he wants to share fishing and hunting with others. His personal record is a 7-pound 6 oz trout. He has also caught several redfish weighing over 40 pounds.
Raymond has steered Saltgrass Lodge through events such as the BP Oil Spill and Hurricane Isaac, turning into a strong, reliable getaway for those looking for a fishing and hunting getaway. The Lodge withstood these events primarily because of Raymond’s commitment to customer service. He knew little about the service industry when he began. He only knew how he liked to be treated, which set the standard for exceptional customer service. The minute a guest steps foot into his Lodge, they are an instant friend of Raymond’s. If you see him, make sure to say hello! He loves to sit with his guests and share his favorite stories (a skill he inherited from his father), as well as ways to prepare his catches. His favorite dish to cook is Redfish with shrimp sauce on top. If you’re lucky, he’ll even share the recipe.
When Raymond isn’t on the water, or making new friends, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children.
